Hello

i just thought of the blog and decided to post something on it.... how is school everyone?

i dont know why but for some reason, even though no one will read this for a long time, i am comforted by the thought that when people do they will help me by praying for me. i am going to loch raven high school next monday and it will be the beginning of a new year for me. i am very afraid that i will be picked on like my one year at a public school in 4th grade. please pray for me. i know you guys out there care for me!

Assignments for Monday

Dear Hannah and Class:

I will post the excellent search engines later this afternoon.  I apologize for forgetting to tell you them yesterday.  I so enjoy our class and always wish we had more time to do more activities.

For this weekend focus on gathering your resources.  You do not have to know at this point whether you will use them or not.  This is a first run at trying to get enough background material to be able to write an excellent research paper.  I do not want you to stress if you cannot find 10 resources by Monday.  We didn't get to do the research workshop until Thursday because of the snow day on Monday which set us back.  

I am simply trying to keep you on track so you don't get overwhelmed in writing the paper.  

Make a good faith effort on the maps but don't worry if you don't get all the countries.  The key countries are the original (1949) members of NATO (The North Atlantic Treaty Organization) which was set up to block the USSR from conquering the rest of Europe.  Then try to get the Warsaw Pact members who joined the USSR in 1955 as communist allies.

On the Europe-Asia map try to locate the USSR, China, Korea, and Vietnam.  Anything else is a bonus!

Ok, I know we have to have 2 articles for our 10 references. I found a website with 6 articles from the newspaper back then. Do all of those count?? Like if I use info from each does that count? I know I'd still have to have the 2 books, 1 Internet sit , and 1 Primary Source. Please answer as soon as possible. And also Mr. B have you found the good search engines yet? Cause I don't know of any. THANKS A BUNCH!!

We are a go for the internet workshop on Thursday so please bring your laptops if you want to use your own.

Ok guys, question.... I was looking at the due dates for our research paper and I noticed one of them says 25-35 Notecard Topic. What does that mean?? We need to have a bunch of info on notecards??? I'm confused, help plz!

Internet Research Seminar Thursday

Hope you all have enjoyed the day off and an extra hour to sleep in tomorrow!  Since we have so little time tomorrow and Wed we will have the internet research seminar Thursday or Friday depending on whether we have a visit from Mr. Song Sr. to share his story of surviving the Korean War as an orphan in the woods.

Please bring your topics tomorrow as you need to get started on collecting resources and compiling note cards.

I checked with the Spy Museum and due to availability we well be going the Friday we come back from Spring Break.  You are all set to save the US from nuclear disaster!

Internet Research Seminar Monday!

Dear 8th Grade:

Thanks for a great afternoon with Abby!  She loved being with you.  I hope you are excitedly brainstorming ideas for your series.

I forgot to remind everyone on Friday that Monday is our internet research workshop.  Come with your topics in mind (Cold War or Civil Rights Era) and bring your own personal laptops if you prefer.

What a great week we have had and next week proves to be just as rich.  Hopefully Mr. Song's dad will be coming on Friday to share what it was like living in the woods as a young teenage orphan during the Korean War.  Sound familiar?

I'm not sure if anyone will read this before the Mid-Term tomorrow. But one way I study is by making a Pre-Test and doing it. So I have a pre-test of the Mid-Term. It's probably not as long as the real thing but it's a practice. If anyone wants it just email me!

Snow!

Here's hoping you all are enjoying the snow!  Tomorrow the 8th grade will help host Cambridge's own inauguration party and witnessing of how we make major transitions of power peacefully.  Beginning at 11:15 we will be hosting grades 5-8 in Mrs. Bauman's room.  Your job will be to help students enter and exit safely without disrupting the ceremony which will be streamed live from Washington DC.  U2 performed Pride yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial to kick off the inauguration ceremonies!  Are we in sync with history or what!  See you all tomorrow!  Mr. B

I'm studying for our math test tomorrow and I do not understand Standard Form and how to do word problems!!!!! ugh!!! how do you start word problems like what is the set up... is it the thing where like the first year is year zero??? and for standard form how do you turn it into standard form given a couple of pionts?!?!?!?!?!?!?! thanks

Mexico 2009!

I have had a couple of great conversations with Brian Donohue over break about the summer.  I have all the info for you with the sign up form and will give that to you Monday.  Our week is July 26-Aug 1.  Prayerfully consider whether this is one of the things God has in store for you this summer!  See you soon and think warm!

Here's wishing the class I have missed a wonderful New Year!  I am so sorry I can't be with you tomorrow for paint ball:-(  I will be in Georgia for my brother-in-law's surprise 60th birthday party.  (Shhhh, no spoiling the surprise!)

I can't wait to see you all on Monday!  Just to clarify it would be great if your letters to Alicia and WWII virtue page are done for Monday.  That way you won't have them hanging over your heads as Mr. Song gives you your new assignments out of To Kill a Mockingbird.  I am also going to give you a chance to do one more rewrite of your WWII Biography papers if you would like to once you get them on Monday.  Not to worry though.  If you haven't finished those assignments by Monday I will accept them up to Thursday.
